Migration Policy Scotland integrates lived experience across our work. Our pioneering approach to lived experience brings together bottom-up and top-down ways of working. We innovate to find new ways to harness the strengths of both lived experience and learned expertise.
We view lived experience of migration as encompassing both the lived experience of migrants themselves and the lived experience of practitioners (often migrants themselves) who work with migrants across a range of roles. Our work brings these experiences to the direct attention of policymakers and other decisionmakers
MPS works with a Migrant Lived Experience Panel comprised of migrants living in Scotland. They bring wide-ranging diversity of perspective and lived insight of the experience of migrating that helps inform, design and evaluate our projects. The panel members are the heart of a growing migrant community of practice that MPS hosts.
Our projects draw on the lived experience of practitioners who work with migrant communities across Scotland. We harness their collective insight through peer research and policy laboratories that generate grounded recommendations and proposals to policy influencing and changing making that benefits migrants and the communities they are part of.
