Training led by Migrant-focused Organisations

Description

Findings from our research show that Migrant-focused, and Migrant-led organisations have a wealth of experience and knowledge which is not always available to mainstream advice and support organisations.

Training designed and delivered by migrant-facing organisations drawing on their lived and learned experience and expertise could support mainstream organisations to be more accessible and effective in supporting migrants. This kind of training could also act as a bridge, building better and more sustainable networks across mainstream and migrant-facing orgs.

A number of challenges remain around:

  • A need to determine what kind of trainings there is an appetite for.
    • What would mainstream services be willing to devote staff time and resource to in terms of training?
    • How could this be funded?
  • A need to offer something different (or to different users) than the various trainings that already exist
  • A need to work out how this might be done collaboratively, pooling resources and developing trainings that are useful across a range of groups/experiences/places.

Within the scope of the policy lab – we are exploring the potential and developing a clearer specification for the kind of training that could be offered, where, by whom and to whom.
